We are recruiting ICS PhD students for Warsaw School of Data Analysis

UPDATE: The recruitment has been extended until June 15, 2014.

WSAD is an EU-funded initiative of University of Warsaw (UW) and Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS). It’s goal is to organize a series of English-language educational activities targeted towards PhD students and practitioners in a broadly conceived field of social science data analysis.

Key activities include:

  • Introductory Internet course and self-study materials providing materials on basic statistics and data analysis for the social sciences. The course and materials provide necessary background knowledge for summerschool participants.
  • Stationary summer school taking place in Warsaw. The summer school is the major event of the project. It will take place in Warsaw in the period July 21 – August 2 of 2014. The participants will be recruited from PhD students of ICS and Polish universities, and practitioners from Polish companies from “social data-intensive” industry.

The program of the summer school will consist of workshops and lectures on various topics of social science data analysis including, but not limited to:

  • Analysis of survey data
  • Data visualization
  • Structural Equation Models
  • Social Network Analysis
  • Mixture models
  • Spatial data analysis
  • Quantitative text analysis
  • Software tutorials on SPSS, R, and Stata.

A dedicated “academic” track will involve working with tutors in small groups of 5 towards writing a complete research paper submittable to a scientific journal. WSAD faculty include world-class experts from ICS, University of Warsaw, University of Michigan (USA), and Carlton University (Canada).
